A little respect

To paraphrase Aretha Franklin (courtesy of Otis Redding), all job seekers and employers are asking for is a little respect.

Problem is, they don’t seem to give it to each other.

• Point: the number one complaint from most job seekers is that they don’t get a response – any response – from employers when they apply for a job.

• Point: employers are often besieged with incomplete job applications – including lack of contact information, resume, and other key items.

Sometimes you have to give a little to get a little. Both job seekers and employers can trot out plenty of examples of bad behavior from the other side. Yet the objective in this recruiting dance should be the same – a match of position and candidate. Right?

So, a modest proposal to both sides: next time around, go the extra mile. Show a bit of extra respect. Let’s see if we can elevate this dance and make everyone’s life a bit easier.
